an introduction of sorts...

2013 is a blur... I don't recall much detail at all...

I suppose that is one reason I make pictures…

this set of souvenirs begins with the beaver dam on the creek down the road from me…  every time I pass, I look to see if it has washed out, if it has been dug out and then, if it’s been rebuilt...

sooner or later it will be rebuilt…  it is only a matter of time…

after I had finished with a doctors appointment at the VA one day in March, I drove by a closed / abandoned machine shop that I had read about in a local newspaper…  a “Brownfield” site…

I made a few pictures of the front of the building, the street and houses nearby…  when I got home and looked on Google Maps I could see that the property borders the high school…  I then went to the DEC website and found the pages relating to this business, it’s history, the pollution issues, proposals for clean-up etc… and, there were many other sites within an hours drive from my home… a few abandoned town dumps, former coal-gas operations, dry-cleaners and so on…

another on-going project…

there are still empty store-fronts on village main streets and war memorials…  events, a parade, craft show, the county fair, tractor show…  my Grandfather and Father worked at Minneapolis-Moline…  the yellow tractor made me smile…  they could have worked on that machine...

scenes along the roads and streets that I travel on a daily basis…  parks and playgrounds, sometimes used, sometimes not...

street signs, signs in yards, on the sides of buildings…  politics, mostly right, occasionally wrong, often misguided… IMHO...

there is the official architecture… Post Office, Courthouse, Library, Museum, Church, School, Train Station… these were once built to last...

 and home…  I enjoy our yard…

apple trees, maple trees, sumac, spruce, pine, raspberries and blueberries, green part of the year and white part of the year…

it all changes over time, maybe it settles now and then... soon moves on...  but never ends...
